Taking the Razor below the Mason Dixon Line (ooh that sounds kinda dirty he he...)

Greetings from Austin, Texas! I can't even begin to explain to you guys how stoked I am to be in this city. My two biggest musical idols Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Johnson are from Austin, and my biggest musical aspiration is to one day play on Austin City Limits. Maybe someday when I grow up.

Let me start by apologizing for taking so damn long to get this next blog post up. Now you guys are going to have to sift through another 15 page dissertation on our antics over the last week or so. Alright so here's the highlights and lowlights of our trip through the south...

Thursday Charlotte N.C.- I wasn't really sure what to expect, but Charlotte is actually a rad city the architecture is beautiful and there seems to be a decent amount of artistic and musical culture. That being said this place was the beginning of the most disgusting weather I've ever experienced in my life. I could never imagine living in a place where it rains while it's 90 degrees outside, this is clearly satan's doing. To make matters a little worse the rhythm section got caught trying to sneak a ca-caw in an alley behind a building, luckily it was just some doofy ass kid who was probably just jealous he was working and not at home doing the same thing. So a little embarrassed and with my clothes permanently fused to my skin by humidity and sweat we set up to play in Molly MacPherson's Pub. Out of all the pubs I've played in my years in Ockham's Razor this one far and away had the most stunningly beautiful girls on staff all decked out in uber short hot pink kilts. It was all I could do to pick my tongue up off the floor and play the show. There wasn't very many people at the bar on a Thursday night, but we played well and everyone that was there seemed to love it. We even had a lady at the show who had seen us like three years ago when she had lived in California, I thought it was cool she liked us enough to see us years later on the other side of the United States(maybe we don't suck hmm...)

Friday Savannah, Georgia- The gross weather continues this tim... What a cool old city Savannah is, colonial architecture, ghost tours, and more drop dead gorgeous women everywhere! We played at yet another Molly MacPherson's Pub with similar results. We had a little bit of trouble getting the sound right, but nothing too serious and we played yet another really solid show. Playing three or four times a week we are starting to get really really tight.

Saturday Thomasville, Georgia- The land of Clan Clements... oh joy lol. Seriously we had a great time in Thomasville, it was really a special thing for Kris to perform in front of and see his family. And his family was absolutely great to us, really unbeatable hospitality, We rolled in pretty early in the morning and Kris' Dad had a delicious breakfast and coffee all ready for us and then I went and finally got some decent sleep in air conditioning and a real bed. Later they fed us a real southern low country boil with sausage, potatoes, corn, and shrimp, absolutely fucking delicious. We played at a bitchin' venue called The Submarine, it was basically a long hall with about 50 seats in it, upon first glance it looks like the most acoustically unfriendly room ever. The owner was a really rad local musician, and had actually done some very strategically well placed sound proofing and deflecting, and the sound system was absolutely stellar. We played a good show, and got some of the loudest and classiest heckling of all time from kris' sister Yvonne. After the show the band packed up our shit and made tracks to Yvonne's pub and they poured us copious amounts of free beer and made a metric fuck-ton of chicken wings(I decided to be a big man and eat a whole tray of nuclear wings and burned my entire face off, seriously fucking Hot!)

Sunday Tampa, Florida- Driving into Florida we passed a tornado in the process of forming, which was bad ass to watch but i thought it was an ominous precursor. I was dead ass wrong though. Tampa was an absolute blast, the pub was called Four Green Fields and judging by the posters on the wall it had played host to the who's who of Celtic music over the last couple of decades. The band really brought the A game out and we absolutely nailed the gig, seriously it was like sound of sweeping machine gun destruction. Everyone that walked into the bar stayed and had an absolute fucking blast, it was really a tremendously rowdy scene for a sunday night. It was really one of those gigs that reaffirmed the fact that when we are on we are a stellar band. The weather was ri-damn-diculous though, again 90 degrees and raming. Not just any rain though, we're talking torrential downpour. It literally created a river in the alley that we parked the van in, and at one point i lost my flip flop in the flash flood and had to chase it down in the street, absolutely disgusting!

Well looks like the Ockham's Razor Express is pulling out of the station, time to test Big Willy in the desert. I'll try to post again as soon as I find some more time and WIFI

In a nutshell... the beginning.

So right before we left Galway Bay I promised Eric Porter that I would blog my ass off while we were on tour. Since that time we've encountered a litany of different ridiculous ass problems that have prevented me getting this thing started(seriously don't let me lie to you guys I'm really just a lazy bastard). Broken down vans and lack of Wifi aside here's where the Razors stand.

Day 1- The band decides to sleep the previous night with the best of intentions to get on the road at early o' clock in the morning. Scott wakes up at 6:00 and proceeds to spend the next hour and a half angrily trying to rouse the rest of the band and packing the trailer all by himself. Finally bewildered, still a little drunk, and smelling of sin we stumble into the van and hit the road out of Seattle at 9:30 just barely way behind schedule. I'm sure by now most everyone is pretty well caught up with what happened next but if not here's the synapses; Kris is driving his ass off, Judd and Tom and I are illegally gambling our meager salaries away on the classiest Texas Hold 'em game ever to be played on top of a cooler and we are making great time on the way to Syracuse. This is when our tour van decided to take a dive outside of Whothefuckknows, Montana. So after some major freaking out, a ca-caw, a call to AAA, and a savage white boy dance-off(winner and still champion btw) we get ourselves towed in to Missoula by a tow truck driver/tour guide who was more than happy to point out all the casinoes and "titty bars" we could hit up while were waiting in town. Tom and I stayed with the van and equipment trailer over night for protection, and in the mean time found the cheapest bar in america(2 shots of Jameson and a Sam Adams $10 consider my mind blown!) 1 Day and $1300 later we were back on the road with a new fuel filter and pump. Let me just take the time to thank all of you guys personally for all your donations I don't think I could ever explain to you how much that lifted our spirits. By that time we were all so dirty and dejected and watching our band account bleed out in front of our eyes.

We cancelled the first gig of the tour in Syracuse and concentrated on kicking ass up to Cape Vincent. Montana is the longest fucking state in the union, I swear it took us 3 years to hit North Dakota. I couldn't tell you what North Dakota was like because I decided to catch my first sleep of the tour all the way across the state. Minnesota was just really unexpectedly hot as balls and swarming with bugs. Then our TomTom GPS decided to take us on the sketchiest detour through the city of Minneapolis to "avoid traffic" on the freeway. This normally would have been fine, but all the roads it took us down were not paved and under construction saving us a grand total of negative 35 minutes. We blew past Chicago on the highway pretty late at night, from what I could see it looked like a cool city though. Illinois introduced me to my new arch enemy, toll roads so from that point on in the tour we've had to pay for the privelage to drive on shitty east coast highways. Indiana is gross. I apologize if that offends any of you from that state, but I am not a fan. It was so disgustingly hot and humid at 3 in the morning there I don't see how it's even habitable land.

Not to far into the state of New York, after two and a half straight disgusting days of driving, that big blue bastard asshole of a tour van threw a belt. So we get towed off the highway for the second time, this time by the funniest tow truck driver/mechanic in all the land to a little town called Byron. In less time than it took for us to finish a pint they had us a new belt and we were off. Finally like true rock stars we roll in to Cape Vincent two hours late, set up extra fast, and play a kick ass show in front of a rowdy crowd that hung around all night waiting for us. After the show I went and jammed some bluegrass with Tom and his Dad for a few hours which was a super rad experience.

After no hours of sleep we packed up and beat out of the friendly confines of Cape Vincent bound for our next gig in Boston. We played an absolutely stellar gig at Porter Bellies in Boston, they freakin loved us there and Boston is not a place where you can suck at playing Irish music they will throw shit at you. After my first solid horizontal sleep in several days we leave Boston bound for Brooklyn feeling real good about ourselves.

Rocky Sullivans in Brooklyn, New York is a really cool little bar with an almost cartoonishly stereotypical goomba bartender named George(seriously I swear I saw this dude on the Soprano's at least 4 or 5 times). The gig, however was rough to say the least. We had more technical difficulties in that one and a half hour set than I think we've had total in this band. Not exactly the best start to being in the Big Apple. We had the next few days off and a family friend of Tom's let us stay in their apartment in Manhattan so we just kicked it tough and explored the city. We saw Ground Zero and Time Square. We busked in Washington Square Park and spent way way to much money on delicious ass italian food, drinking at bars, and riding the subway. I fell in love with NYC and didn't want to leave, I will live there someday I promise.

As it stands at this moment the band is digesting a delicious breakfast in the exceptionally gorgeous home of some more friends of Tom's family Chapel Hill, North Caroina. They have fed us two ginormous meals, let us shower off the swamp ass, let us sleep in comfortable beds of our own, and do laundry. The hospitality has been so outstanding I almost don't wannna leave, but I'm really pumped to see what the Southern leg of the tour is going to bring us.

Tonight we play Charllotte, N.C. I'll check in with you all as soon as I can.
